Prediction Powers!

During our reading lessons, we have been working on predicting. We can use the clues in the text and our prior knowledge (what we already know) to help us make sensible predictions.

Good readers keep making predictions and adjust them as they continue to read.

We watched this short movie, and had to predict what happened next. We had to justify our thinking and explain WHY we thought what we did.

Positive Role Models

Our PB4L focus is currently on Being a Role Model. We have been discussing our ideas about what a role model is, and what a positive role model does.

Here are some of the ideas that we have had.

What do you think makes a good role model? Who is a role model to you and why?

Leave us a comment! We'd love to see if you agree with us, or if you have different opinions.

Bugs, Bugs, BUGS!

Last Friday we were lucky enough to have a visit from our school nurse, Millie. She taught us heaps about fleas, germs and how to keep ourselves healthy.

Some of the things we learnt:
  • parasites feed on blood. Fleas are a parasite because they feed on the blood of pets and humans! (ugh! GROSS!)
  • we can't see germs, but they live on surfaces.
  • how to sneeze safely.
There are 4 tips to sneezing safely:
1. Trap it!
2. Bin it!
3. Wash it!
4. Don't eat it!

When you don't have tissues, sneeze into your elbow. This is the best way to catch a sneeze because it covers your face AND your nose, and keeps the germs away from your hands.

What is your top tip to stay healthy this winter?

ASB Getwise with Gary!

Today we had Gary from the ASB Getwise programme visit us at school. He taught us about:

STWLFGD
which means:
Stop The Wheels, Look for Good Deals!

He taught us to look for deals and shop around when we are buying things to help us save money.

We learnt the difference between a credit card and an EFTPOS card. When you pay with a credit card, you are using the bank’s money and you have to pay it back. When you pay with an EFTPOS card, you are using your own money.

Gary also taught us about PINs. PIN stands for
Personal
Identification
Number

We need to keep these to ourselves. A PIN is like a password. You shouldn’t tell other people.

We really enjoyed our fun session with Gary and hope he comes back to visit us again soon!
