Maui by the Mythbusters

Recently, we had some AMAZING performers visit us to perform their interpretation of How Maui Slowed the Sun.

Maui learnt some important messages from the characters in the story that we can use in our own lives.

From the Kaka, Maui learnt to NEVER GIVE UP.

From the fish he learnt to ASK FOR HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT.

And from the Tuatara he learnt to TAKE YOUR TIME.

We helped him to catch Te Ra. 

"We're off to catch the sun,

Taumanui te ra

We're gunna slow him down

You and me together!"

Science Week Smash!

Week 3 was National Primary Science Week.

We did lots of exciting science experiments in our class.

In Room 13 we have learnt about:

• GRAVITY - which is the force that pulls us down so we don't float off into space. 
• We created parachutes to learn about air resistance (but it was pretty windy when we tested them out, and some flew away!)
• the safety features in a car - We made our own model of a car and learnt about the crumple zone and the importance of wearing a seatbelt.

Learner of the week - Week 2

Our Learner of the Week for Week 2 was Damsey! 

Damsey has earned a LOT of sunshines this term. He's secret to earning them is that he tries really hard to be an ideal student and do the right thing!

Cooking with Michael Meredith & the Eat My Lunch Crew!

At the end of last term we were incredibly lucky to cook with the very talented Michael Meredith and his fabulous volunteers at the Eat My Lunch headquarters. Check out this short clip!

Here is a short snippet about what happened, written by Amelia and Maile:

First we washed our hands and we put on the apron. Then we were in a line of groups of four. We chose our group then went to a table. Each table had a cook or chef so our chef was Carol. Our group was Alzarah, Amelia, Eknoor and Maile. On each table the group had ingredients. My favourite part was making cupcakes and making meatballs.  It was so fun there and we loved the food.

Learner of the Week - Week 8

Week 8: Achsah!

Week 8's Learner of the Week was Achsah! 

Achsah is trying really hard to be an ideal student. She has proven herself to be a responsible and helpful member of Room 13.
